Phil Jones ruled out for month at Manchester United

The Manchester United defender Phil Jones has been ruled out for up to a month with a torn hamstring.
Jones hobbled off in the second half of England’s 2-0 win in Switzerland on Monday and he is now likely to be unavailable for a number of weeks.

“Phil has a torn hamstring,” Louis van Gaal said. “He is maybe out for three weeks or a month.”
Jones is likely to miss United’s next four games and his place in the England squad for October’s double-header against San Marino and Estonia would also be in doubt.

The United manager said nine of his players were unavailable for Sunday’s game against QPR through injury. Chris Smalling, James Wilson, Sam Johnstone, Reece James, Jones and Jesse Lingard are out.
Marouane Fellaini’s ankle injury will keep him out for “longer than a month”, according to Van Gaal.

Ashley Young suffered a groin strain, but the good news for United is that Michael Carrick has returned to light training following an ankle injury he suffered in pre-season.

Luke Shaw is also back in training and could make his debut on Sunday, along with the recent signings Radamel Falcao, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo.
